Reminiscence, 1821,19uu.

Reminiscence, 1821 and 19uu, is a modern, undated, typed transcript (7 p.) of the original 1821 manuscript. Chipman described a trip he and traveling companions took from Ontario county (NY) to Flint, Detroit, Dearborn, Mount Clemens, and Romeo (Mich.) in 1821 by horse, steamer, and on foot. His father, a doctor, traveled with Chipman. Among sights he described was the trading post of Jacques Campau and Indians in Michigan.

Jacques Campau was the first of four children born to Jean Louis Campau (1702-1774) and Marie Louise Robert. Jacques, born March 30, 1735 in Detroit (Mich.) married Catherine Menard (died in 1781 or 1782) on Aug. 17, 1761. They had twelve children. He married Francoise Navarre, a widow, on Jan. 5, 1784.
